Tittle and Author-Regret by Kate Chopin Date published-May 1895 Back ground on the Author- Kate Chopin was born in St. Louis Missouri, 1850. She was one of five children, however her two sisters died infancy and her two brothers in their early 20s. She attended 'The Sacred Heart Academy' which was a Catholic boarding school. In 1867 Kate began to collect numerous amounts of poems essays, sketches, criticiss, etc. 1869-1870, Kate picked up the habit of smoking and wrote her first story “Emancipation a Life Fable”, a short story about restrictions and freedom. She then got married to Oscar Chopin and had 6 sons. In 1879 Oscar closes a small general store in New Orleans and move out to Coulterville, IL where Oscar ran multiple small plantations and a general store. In 1882 Oscar died and Kate ran the business he had, she stops and moves in with her mom. After her mother died Kate started reading Maupassant and shortly after reading it, she writes “Euphrase” in 1888. Three years later, Kate writes a short story called “Mrs. Mobrys Reason” and “A Shameful Affair.” From this point on, Kate writes and publishes many stories. In 1902 Kate has her last story, “Polly”, published. Kate passed away from a cerebral hemorrhage on August 22nd, 1904.
